About Castelnaudary

Castelnaudary, the capital of Cassoulet offers a variety of things to see – not least the impressive views over the Black Mountains from the Cugarel Windmill view point. It is a great start (or finish) for boaters looking to enjoy pleasant countryside and a lazy meander past quiet towns and villages. A 7-night cruise to the west is a peaceful return journey to the contrasting hubbub of cosmopolitan Toulouse. However, most boaters choose to head east where, after two days of tranquil cruising, you’ll reach the spectacular fortified citadel of Carcassonne, the second most visited tourist attraction in France.

From Castelnaudary it is:

  • 13 hrs (31 locks) to our base in Trèbes
  • 20hrs (45 locks) to our base in Homps
  • 32.5hrs (63 locks) to our base in Port Cassafières
  • 27hrs (61 locks) to our base in Narbonne

When to arrive

Your boat will be ready to depart for 16:00 - 18:00. We recommend that you arrive 60 minutes earlier for check-in and instructions. If you have booked an Early Check-in Service, please arrive at the base ready to depart between 11:00 and 12:00 or from 14:00.

Late arrivals

If you are going to be arriving at the base late, you will need to inform the base directly or our UK/IRE sales team. When you arrive at the base there will be a note on the reception door informing you where your boat is. The boat will be left open for you to stay on board that night. The base staff will do the full briefing the following morning.

  • Take a deposit to cover the fuel and gas you use during your holiday as well as engine wear and tear. Any extra fuel used will be charged on your return or we will refund the difference for fuel you have not used.
  • Take a refundable collision damage deposit. This will be refunded if you return your boat and its inventory undamaged at the end of your holiday. The amount collected (and thus your liability) can be reduced by purchasing a Collision Damage Waiver in advance. Please contact our sales team for details.
  • Familiarise you with your waterways guide, maps and other helpful documentation provided to help you plan where you want to go and where you’d like to stop.
  • Brief you about your boat, the equipment on board, and the cruising area (places to visit, etc.).
